Jimbo Ro

James Rohlehr, (pronounced Rolair) is a gifted jazz and funk guitarist. He is also a talented singer, songwriter, composer and producer. James is originally from New York and is a graduate of City College of N.Y. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in music composition. While at CCNY he studied with John Lewis of The Modern Jazz Quartet. His commitment to mastering the guitar led to receiving two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. The first was with the phenomenal jazz guitarist, Jack Wilkins and the other with world renown classical guitarist Jorge Morel.

James performed in the stage band for a tribute to Maya Angelou where he played and sang backgrounds for Ashford and Simpson, Cissy Houston, Nancy Wilson, and Gloria Lynn. He also co-wrote a song with Atlantic recording artist jazz violinist, Regina Carter. The song “The Last Time” was featured on Regina’s debut C.D. James was a featured vocalists with the New Jersey Pops. He has taught and directed music performance workshops for I.C.I.S. The Door (an alternative school for teenagers) as well as conducted recording workshops at various New York City Schools and conducted workshops for The Bertelsmann World of Expression Scholarship Program.

With a lush blend of the Caribbean sound and groove of jazz and funk guitar with West Indian Roots, Jimbo Ro has jazzy sensibilities and classic soul influences ringing throughout, drawing upon James’ mixed Guyanan and Trinidadian heritage. The band’s vocal harmonies are smooth and tight and their sound enriches the tradition of American Music bringing real musicianship to songs we can all relate to and relish.
