AndJam – Andrea and James Rohlehr
James Rohlehr, (pronounced Rolair) is a gifted jazz and funk guitarist. He is also a talented singer, songwriter, composer and producer. James is originally from New York and is a graduate of City College of N.Y. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in music composition. While at CCNY he studied with John Lewis of The Modern Jazz Quartet. His commitment to mastering the guitar led to receiving two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. The first was with the phenomenal jazz guitarist, Jack Wilkins and the other with world renown classical guitarist Jorge Morel.
Andrea Rohlehr is a University of Kansas graduate with a Bachelor in Music Education. She taught school briefly in the St. Louis school system before relocating to New York to pursue a professional music career. In addition to her expressive, soulful voice, St. Louis-born Andrea is also an accomplished flute player.
James performed in the stage band for a tribute to Maya Angelou where he played and sang backgrounds for Ashford and Simpson, Cissy Houston, Nancy Wilson, and Gloria Lynn. He also co-wrote a song with Atlantic recording artist jazz violinist, Regina Carter. The song “The Last Time” was featured on Regina’s debut C.D.
Both James and Andrea were featured vocalists with the New Jersey Pops. They have taught and directed music performance workshops for I.C.I.S. The Door (an alternative school for teenagers) as well as conducted recording workshops at various New York City Schools and conducted workshops for The Bertelsmann World of Expression Scholarship Program.
James and Andrea live in Westchester County and are the proud parents of Brianna and James.
