Introducing James Rohlehr, aka 'Jimbo Ro’. Musician, singer and guitarist, composer, songwriter.
On stage, whether he is with an ensemble or solo, performing Jazz standards, pop classics, or his original music, Jimbo Ro brings an air of excellence. His vocals and guitar playing are timeless and memorable. Right now he is working on a new show. ‘Music Is My Soul’ a fusion of jazz, calypso and other Caribbean flavors.
The songs and pieces that I compose, reflect my life stories and cultural background. My father was from Guyana and my mothers family, from Trinidad and Barbados, so that is where the Caribbean flavor comes from.I like to write and perform positive messages that makes all generations feel good. When I feel that the audience is feeling good, I feel good.
James is originally from New York and is a graduate of City College of N.Y. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in music composition.
While at CCNY he studied with John Lewis of The Modern Jazz Quartet. James also studied composition at Lehman College with Nobel Prize winning composer John Corigliano.
His commitment to mastering the guitar led to receiving two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. The first grant he studied with the phenomenal jazz guitarist, Jack Wilkins and the other with world renown classical guitarist Jorge Morel.
